Bayonne, March 2025 – Franco-Lebanese composer and organist Naji Hakim unveils his new album, Basques Arabesques—a captivating musical journey blending the sounds of the Basque Country, Mediterranean rhythms, and Arabic inspiration. Recorded with the Czech Symphony Orchestra Prague, under the baton of Johannes Skudlik, this album also highlights the expressive artistry of cellist Gwendeline Lumaret in a remarkable solo role.

A Musical Tribute to Cultural Crossroads

With Basques Arabesques, Naji Hakim crafts a vibrant work that intertwines the modal richness of traditional music with the harmonic colors of jazz and the power of symphonic writing. Each piece unfolds like a musical fresco, oscillating between effervescent dances, refined ornamentation, and mesmerizing improvisations.

The album features:

"Trois Danses Basques" – A tribute to the rhythms of the Basque Country, featuring an enchanting Zortziko, a majestic Ezpata Dantza, and a fiery Fandango.
"Baalbeck" – A symphonic ode to the legendary Phoenician city, where percussion and orchestral themes evoke the spirit of Lebanese Dabké.
"Levantine Variations" – A fresh interpretation of the popular song Bint El Shalabiya, developed into five contrasting variations.
