VARIATIONS ON "YA TIRA TIRI" for piano, 15', Bayonne, 2020, U.M.P., to Prof. Dr Seba Ali, Seba Ali, Beyrouth, 15.06.20.
The popular Arabic song Ya Tira Tiri was composed by Syrian author Abou Khalil Alqabbani (1833-1903). The exposition of the joyful theme, Allegro, is followed by a variation, Lo stesso tempo, developing the melody in the bass line with a march like accompaniment. The Quasi improvisando second variation is more ornamental and uses dense arpeggiated harmonies. The percussive third variation, Qanoun, makes reference to the stringed old Assyrian instrument commonly used in the Arabic takhts (ensembles). The fourth variation, Cantabile, leads the melodic line with expressive harmonies, in rhythmic swaying, evoking the slow movement of the composer's Violin concerto (2002). The conclusive joyful rondo in the minor mode, Presto, includes a slower episode proudly proclaiming the original folk melody.
