A lively motif launches the piece at once, clear and incisive: a staccato line in the primo’s left hand unfolds a dactylic rhythm that stamps the playful character of the discourse. The secondo provides a steady quaver motion, like the pizzicato accompaniment of a string ensemble.

The first section, in C-sharp minor, cultivates this play of momentum and wit, blending elegant nervous energy with discreet humour. Then, without rupture but like a sudden clearing of light, the second section opens in D-flat major: the discourse becomes more luminous and smiling.

A brief introduction suspends time before the impulse, while the bell-like coda sweeps across the full range of the keyboard, transforming the initial playfulness into a festive resonance. This Humoresque thus unfolds as a miniature theatre in which the two pianists converse in complicity, bringing forth beneath their intertwined hands a joy both vivid and delicate.
