La Prière op. 20, extraite des "Six Pièces pour Grand Orgue" de César Franck (1822-1890), développe un matériau pluri-thématique dans une forme libre qui tient à la fois de la sonate, de la variation, du récitatif et de la fantaisie. Une de ses originalités se situe dans son langage harmonique dense, chargé de modulations et d’enharmonies aboutissant, à la fin d’un discours évoquant chagrin, foi et espérance, à son essence originelle, la mélodie. Et c’est de cette mélodie qu’est née mon idée d’envelopper toute cette Prière dans une Paraphrase pour violon seul.

Prière Op.20, from César Franck’s Six Pièces pour Grand Orgue, freely develops three themes in a combination of sonata, variation, recitative and fantasia forms. Part of its individuality can be found in its dense harmonic language, full of modulations and enharmonics which lead, after an oration evoking sorrow, faith and hope, to its original source, the melody. It is from this melody that my idea of wrapping the whole of the Prière in a Paraphrase for solo violin was born.
