La Marche des Rois is a traditional Provençal carol, closely associated with Christmas and the feast of the Epiphany, celebrating the procession of the Three Kings to the manger. Deeply rooted in the folklore of southern France, the melody achieved international recognition through its use by Georges Bizet in the incidental music to L’Arlésienne, where it appears as a brilliant and rhythmically driven march.

In this fantasy for piano four hands, the composer develops the theme in a highly dance-like, rhythmic and festive spirit. Emphasis is placed on vitality, propulsion and colour, evoking the collective joy inspired by Christmas and the Epiphany of the Christ Child. The music transforms the ancient carol into a jubilant pianistic tableau.
