Noël nouvelet is a traditional Christmas — or New Year — carol in Old French, dating from the late 15th century. In this piano duet version, the ornamented theme is developed in an ABA form. The central section offers a bright contrast: the melody is transposed into the major mode and entrusted to the secondo, while the primo unfolds descending, bell-like arpeggios.
The return of the opening material leads to an ascending line symbolising the rising of incense, a gesture of homage to the King of Kings.

Noël nouvelet est un chant traditionnel de Noël — ou du Nouvel An — en ancien français, attesté dès la fin du XVe siècle. Dans cette version pour piano à quatre mains, le thème orné se développe selon une forme ABA. La partie centrale, plus lumineuse, transpose le thème au mode majeur, confié au secondo, tandis que le primo déploie des arpèges descendants aux accents carillonnants.
La réexposition s’achève par une ligne ascendante figurant l’élévation de l’encens, en hommage au Roi des rois.
