The Prelude is inspired by a French Carol "O Dieu de Clémence"; The incipit of the Aria is inspired by a Basque song to the Sacred Heart Jesusen bihotza zoin maitea (The so beloved heart of Jesus). The melody is developed very expressively in a song form. The setting exists also in two other versions: 1/ for viola quartet and 2/ for cello quartet (). The Gigue is a joyful rondo on a free theme.
