​The Prelude is inspired by a French Carol "O Dieu de Clémence"; The incipit of the Aria is inspired by a Basque song to the Sacred Heart Jesusen bihotza zoin maitea (The so beloved heart of Jesus). The melody is developed very expressively in a song form. The setting exists​ also​ in two ​other ​versions: 1/ for viola quartet and 2/ for cello quartet​ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG4y8NjOvsk​). The Gigue is a joyful rondo on a free theme.​​ ​
